The main objective

The main objective of the project Collaboration in Virtual Environments is to develop effective models for collaboration between the University of Tromsø (UiT) and Umeå University (UmU) with regard to the development of a Master of Pharmacy program. This collaboration also aims to improve the quality of the education offered by both institutions and to increase recruitment to the respective pharmacy programs. In addition the project aims to develop new pedagogical models to improve student learning through the development of virtual laboratories, hospitals and pharmacies.

Collaborative course development

To achieve these aims two working groups have been formed comprising content experts and educational technologists from the Universities of Tromsø and Umeå. The groups work collaboratively with development of two online courses on the Master of Pharmacy program: Drug Formulation (link to page) and Clinical Pharmacy (link to page). Special emphasis is placed on the development and implementation of practical laboratory activities in a virtual environment and use of a virtual hospital and pharmacy for communication training. Throughout the project teachers in both Drug Formulation and Clinical Pharmacy will have the opportunity for skills development in the pedagogical and technical use of educational technologies.

Project timeline

The project runs from January 1st 2010 to December 31st 2012 and is financed by Norway Opening University, Umeå University and the University of Tromsø.
